«Features of IM functions». Summary

All features of socionic functions, which allow distinguishing between them, are briefly mentioned.

Function 1

  1. Mental quality of information processing.

  2. Information processing by four parameters: Ex, Nm, St, Tm.

  3. The plus signed function is competent only in the positive area (+), the competence in the negative area (-) is absent. In the negative area the information is processed within the Ex dimension.

  4. The minus signed function is competent both in the positive and in the negative area.

  5. It is found in the ego executive block. It is a value function. It contains the aim of personality realization. It is the focus of the personality’s attention, the perception of the world is interpreted through this function’s information element.

  6. The function’s operation is accompanied with positive and negative control emotions (CE) of attraction, assessment of the possibility of the aim realization and disappointment in case of absence of such possibility (see in more detail Key features and control emotions of IM functions).

Function 2

  1. Mental quality of information processing.

  2. Information processing by three parameters: Ex, Nm, St.

  3. The plus signed function is competent only in the positive area (+), the competence in the negative area (-) is absent. In the negative area the information is processed within the Ex dimension.

  4. The minus signed function is competent both in the positive and in the negative area.

  5. It is found in the ego executive block. It is the sphere and the instrument of a personality realization.

  6. The function’s operation is accompanied with positive and negative control emotions (CE) of attraction, assessment of the possibility of the aim realization and disappointment in case of absence of such possibility (see in more detail Key features and control emotions of IM functions).

Function 3

  1. Mental quality of information processing.

  2. Information processing by two parameters: Ex, Nm.

  3. The plus signed function is competent only in the positive area (+), the competence in the negative area (-) is absent. In the negative area the information is processed within the Ex dimension.

  4. The minus signed function is competent both in the positive and in the negative area.

  5. It is found in the super-ego control block. It is the function of correlating oneself with the norms of society. The function operation bears the character of necessity, correctness.

  6. It is accompanied by control emotions (CE) of low-dimensional functions (see in more detail Key features and control emotions of IM functions).

Function 4

  1. Mental quality of information processing.

  2. Information processing by one parameter: Ex.

  3. It processes the information in accordance to the model sign. It is not recommended to determine the «quality» feature of the sign of a one-dimensional function.

  4. It is found in the super-ego control block. It is a control function of repulsion. It shows the striving to diminish the acquisition of information on the information element.

  5. Individuality of perception.

  6. It is accompanied by control emotions (CE) of low-dimensional functions (see in more detail Key features and control emotions of IM functions).

Function 5

  1. Vital quality of information processing.

  2. Information processing by one parameter: Ex.

  3. It processes the information in accordance to the model sign. It is not recommended to determine the «quality» feature of the sign of a one-dimensional function.

  4. It is found in the super-id control block. It is a control function of attraction. The information on the information element is suggested. It is a value function; it has the unconscious individual selectivity of information.

  5. Individuality of perception.

  6. It is accompanied by control emotions (CE) of low-dimensional functions (see in more detail Key features and control emotions of IM functions).

Function 6

  1. Vital quality of information processing.

  2. Information processing by two parameters: Ex, Nm.

  4. The minus signed function is competent both in the positive and in the negative area.

  5. It is found in the super-id control block. It has the unconscious expectation of evaluation and appraisal from the society, expectation of confirmation of individual rightness. It unconsciously turns on and induces a person to active reaction: search and acquisition of information, realization on a function 6. It also activates the ego block.

  6. It is accompanied by control emotions (CE) of low-dimensional functions (see in more detail Key features and control emotions of IM functions).

Function 7

  1. Vital quality of information processing.

  5. It is found in the id executive block. Some repetitive, powerful, probably, family programs of realization periodically and automatically turn on as the reaction to a certain external stimuli. Such turning on is accompanied with absolute certainty of the right to such choice and the refusal to focus on the society.

  6. It is accompanied by control emotions (CE) of the id block (see in more detail Key features and control emotions of IM functions).

Function 8

  1. Vital quality of information processing.

  2. Information processing by four parameters: Ex, Nm, St, Tm.

  4. The minus signed function is competent both in the positive and in the negative area.

The specifics of the «plus» functions operation

1

«Departure from negative»

It is possible due to two reasons.

1)      A function has the «plus» sign, so the person does not versed in the «minus» area. He departs from «minus» because he gets lost there, he does not know how to react to «minus»; it would be more correct to call it «the avoidance of the negative information»

2)      A function has the «minus» sign, but the person does not want to stay in the «minus» area because it is more convenient to him. He can orient in the «minus» area, but he chooses the «plus» area.

2

The answer begins from examples, there is no generalization

3

Refusal from everything that is NOT…,  avoiding of the negative information

A plus signed function

It is necessary to distinguish from departure from «minus» in a minus signed function, which simply makes a choice

4

Concretization, going into details

A plus signed function

5

Limitation of the area

Narrowing the area of competence

Local scale

13

Anything that DOES NOT fit, DOES NOT correspond, DOES NOT like, at that sometimes the other positive area is not determined.

That is, the negative area is described and evaluated without any fear provided the psychological presence inside this area. And the positive («plus» area) is chosen.

The specifics of the mental track functions operation

  1. Conscious tracing the information on the information element.
  2. Thinking over before reacting.
  3. Thinking, consideration, asking questions in the process of answering.
  4. Social direction.

The specifics of the vital track functions operation

  1. Automatic processing of information on the information element.
  2. Absence of thinking over before the reaction.
  3. Recollecting and narration of «usual» situations in the process of the answer.
  4. Individual direction.

The specifics of the one-dimensional functions operation

  • Relying on the previous experience in the attempt to understand and assess the new one or take a new decision. It seems like a single-track railway: the train moves only in one direction and only by the way already passed.
  • The repetition of similar reactions, assessments, decisions.
  • The use of those language instruments that help personalize, define the individuality of perception.
  • Impossibility to compare to any fixed norm, pattern, rule, which provokes permanent anxiety.
  • Accumulation of mistakes as the result of inadequate (not corresponding to the expectations of the society) decisions and actions, which leads to the formation of fears, complexes. Otherwise, back reaction — inadequate self-assuredness (a mask demonstrated to the society to hide the same fears and uncertainty).
  • The desire to «cut off» a part of information about the world, to «turn away», memory erases the traces of failures.
  • Unhealthy expectation of the repetition of unsuccessful experiments.
  • Hurry when processing unpleasant information.
  • The presence of fears.
  • Desire to receive new and new information in suggestive function (function 5).
  • Embarrassment when evaluating new situations.
  • Processing large volumes of information is accompanied with high energy cost.
  • The absence of norms for comparison may result in inadequate (overestimated or underestimated) self-appraisal. A person cannot understand whether he correctly processes the information and he can assess a one-dimensional function as a very strong one.
  • Suggestibility is possible. There is no critical approach to the appraisal of information.

The specifics of the normative functions operation

Basing on:
  • Proverbs, idioms, that reflect common stable ideas.
  • Normative acts, rules, laws.
  • Reference materials.
  • Competent sources of information to be relied upon.

Specific characteristics:

  • Complex of customs, superstitions.
  • Uniform education.
  • Necessity.
  • Conformism — the desire to conform to the requirements of the society.
  • Conventionalism — the tendency to follow common agreements.
  • Non-flexible division into the «correct / incorrect», «good / bad».

The specifics of the three-dimensional functions operation

  • The departure from non-flexible correctness of normative functions.
  • The exit beyond the frame of norm taking into account concrete situations.
  • Appearance of gradations, shades, nuances between extreme fixed poles of norms.
  • Flexibility and adaptability to each new situation (functions 2).
  • The presence of (conscious or unconscious) choice from several variants of decision, subject to the differentiation of these variants and the degree of their conformity to the situation (not enumeration of the variants but the orientation and situational choice).
  • The certainty of own decisions, own self-appraisal (excluding the «minus» area of «plus» functions).
  • Absence of fears, unhealthiness, inadequacy in the information processing (excluding the «minus» area of «plus» functions).

The specifics of the four-dimensional functions operation

  • All characteristics of three-dimensional function are present.
  • The presence of dynamic, uninterrupted in time perception of information on the information element.
